About Us

From Our Family to Yours

Family-Owned Pickle Company Serving the Southwest Since 1945

For over 75 years, Mrs. Klein’s Pickles has been a trusted name across the Southwest, known for crafting crisp, flavorful pickles made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Founded in 1945 in Phoenix, Arizona, our family-owned business quickly gained a loyal following by delivering high-quality pickles rooted in traditional recipes.

From the beginning, Mrs. Klein’s stood out by partnering with local farmers to source vine-ripened cucumbers and premium produce. This commitment to freshness and quality has made our pickles a staple in homes, restaurants, and grocery stores throughout Arizona and beyond.

A Rich Legacy

The Story Behind Mrs. Klein’s Pickles

In 1980, the Byron Arnold family purchased Mrs. Klein’s and merged it with their own business, Arnold’s Pickles — a Phoenix favorite since the early 1900s.

William Arnold, known for his dedication and grit, famously swam his team across the Salt River to deliver pickles to Arizona’s East Valley, saving the 50-cent ferry fare. During World War II, Arnold’s Pickles supplied pickles and olives to the U.S. military, producing over 5,000 tons of pickles annually and employing hundreds of Arizonans.

Though Arnold’s Pickles closed in the 1980s, its legacy lives on through Mrs. Klein’s. Today, the company is led by Susan DeMuro, Byron Arnold’s daughter, alongside her sons, representing five generations of family leadership.

Founding in Post-War Arizona

Founded by Max and Lena Klein in Phoenix, Arizona, Mrs. Klein’s capitalized on the post-war population boom and agricultural expansion. Lena Klein’s recipes and hand-packed approach defined the company, creating the “Mrs. Klein’s” brand synonymous with family-driven quality.

1945

Ties to Arizona Agriculture

Arizona farms, particularly around Phoenix and Yuma, provided fresh cucumbers and peppers. Mrs. Klein’s worked directly with growers, often pickling cucumbers within 24 hours of harvest, ensuring a crisp, vibrant flavor that mass-market competitors cannot match.
